Small stuff that I am grateful for today: All of the many wonderful bayou folks that have fed my wonderful volunteer folks during their stay.
Bonus: The team has had to work twice as fast to burn off all those calories.

Small stuff that I am grateful for today: chilly, windy days that just scream for a nice gumbo to warm me up and a cooperative, unsecured interweb signal to make your mouth water.
Bonus: no worries about preparing lunch or dinner for the rest of the week.

Small stuff that I am grateful for today: when the mozzarella cheese oozes out of cheese sticks while you’re deep frying them and gets that kinda burned, but not too burned, crunch.
So I have all these really weird food things. And anyone who knows me well will tell you that some of my strangest food things have to do with cheese. I have never just eaten a piece of cheese. Really, I honestly can say that I have absolutely, positively no recollection of ever once in my entire life eating a “piece” of cheese. It’s quite possible that my mother once upon a time served me a slice of cheese, but I really don’t ever remember that happening. In a nutshell, I can only eat cheese if it’s incorporated in to something else, and even then, I’m pretty particular. I hate orange cheese unless it’s shredded. And I’ll only eat shredded orange cheese in a salad or on a taco or in one of those taco casserole things, but only if I am the one to actually cook it. Well, maybe that’s not entirely true. I’m trying to think of people I would trust to make a taco casserole with shredded orange cheese and I can think of like maybe three people, but one is kind of iffy. Anyway, you could take orange cheese and put it on just about anything else that I can think of and I won’t eat it. I will eat sliced white American cheese on Subway sandwiches only. Put a slice of white American cheese, or any other type of cheese for that matter, on any other type of sandwich and I absolutely must remove it before eating the sandwich. Put a slice of orange American cheese on a Subway sandwich and you can kiss that goodbye. I love mozzarella cheese on pizza or melted on a philly cheesesteak or melted on garlic bread or in cheese sticks, but again, the thought of just eating a piece of mozzarella cheese is completely repulsive to me. I do enjoy grated parmesan on a whole host of foods, but if someone said, hey eat this hunk of parmesan cheese or I’m going to punch you in the face, well, I’d really have to consider it and would probably opt for the black eye. However, if someone said, hey eat this hunk of parmesan cheese or I’m going to steal your car, well, I’d probably eat it. But, if someone said, hey eat this brie or camembert or I’m going to steal your car, well, I’d just hand them the keys. And if someone said, hey eat this slice of orange Kraft American cheese or I’m going to punch you in the face and then steal your car, well, um, geez, that would be a pretty tough call. Now, cream cheese, well, that’s a whole different story. But I digress.
So anyhoo, I do enjoy cheese sticks, especially when they look like this.
Bonus: Accepting that I am a strange bird.
* See above.

Small stuff #8 that I am grateful for today: the veritable feast for the olfactory receptor neurons brought about by the act of browning andouille sausage, onions, peppers, celery, parsley and garlic over an open flame.
Bonus: But of course…the veritable feast that follows.
